Online Gambling & Broken Government
www.nytimes.com Many of the country’s largest casinos, long opposed to gambling games like poker on the Internet, are now having second thoughts. Although online gambling is popular with millions of Americans, it is illegal in the United States, and the casino industry has considered it a threat. But a trade group that represents major casinos like Harrah’s Entertainment, MGM Resorts and Wynn Resorts is working on a proposal that would ask Congress to legalize at least some form of online gambling, the group’s chief executive said. The group, the American Gaming Association, issued a statement in the spring suggesting that online gambling could be properly regulated — the first public indication that its hard-line stance was softening. The chief executive, Frank J. Fahrenkopf Jr., said in an interview by phone that the association had not settled on the details of its proposed legislation, including how the proceeds from Internet gambling would be taxed. “We have been working on something,” he said, “and continue to work on it.” Gambling specialists said it was likely that any casino-supported legalization would be limited to Internet poker because it was considered the least threatening to brick-and-mortar casinos. Internet poker already had the backing of some in the casino industry, and was seen as a new and lucrative source of revenue for the casino companies. Congress has been weighing a bill by Representative Barney Frank, Democrat of Massachusetts, that would …

The thing to realize is that this problem will NEVER change! The Monied Interests will ALWAYS win in America! Money rules the nation and that is the way it will always be in a capitalist society! I like capitalism, but we must all recognize its faults. A bought govt is the price we pay for living in a capitalist society.

Except other capatlist countries don’t have nearly the same problem as America? Is it because in America corporations are given more freedoms then people and when people try to change that the politicians and pundits scream communism?

Cenk is funny sometimes. He thinks it is okay to blow all your money on gambling, but you should still get wellfare and health insurance for free. I guess so that they can spend more money on gambling. Kind of like… wow, most of my high school drop outs. Maybe we should just combine the two, you get free healthcare if you get 7-7-7′s

We should make corruption and taking bribes a capital offense. The only thing people value more than money is there lives and their families lives. May sound to extreme ,but I bet it would work.

Wow you are dumber than shit, if a person want’s to blow their money on gambling that is their choice you fascist pig. And paying for people to live with universal health care sure as FUCK beats paying for people to die with an over inflated military budget.

@Shadowlit001 Did i say i approved of the military budget? I do not at all, our budget for the military needs to be cut in half, if not more. But tell me, do you donate to every bum you pass on the street? every single one? even a quarter? if you don’t, then why not? taxes would cost you more, and you are still helping him out. Why not start a movement and start giving money to the homeless. Or are you all talk? You want to force others to do what you could be doing?

@jack5051525354 except we have seen time and time again that jail is not a deterent. Best just to make it a flat rate. Set a ceiling cap on how much you can spend on a campaign. Donations to political parties needs to be outlawed in general, along with pay decreases to politicians. Hard to vote for bush tax cuts when that means your income, when really it shouldn’t matter. Hell, congress should be paid average american income.

@sactowncr1minal I said, “What the hell”! Like I KNOW THAT, If Cenk would ask for a donation, I will send him one! The real reason was that with such a dramatic show, I wish he could have ended it with out a commercial to distract all the village idiots out there.

Looks like Harry Reid might not get it done right now. Conservatives are really complaining about it and it makes no sense. The bill would create billions of dollars for federal as well as state governments and the conservative states can opt out if they choose to so it will remain illegal in their state. You’d think since they are going to continue to support the tax cuts to the wealthy which increases the deficit, you’d think they’d support something which will reduce it to a small degree.

@CooperLordOfAll That’s a fucked up mentality. Lesser of two evils? Vote for a 3rd party candidate. The only reason why they don’t win is because people like you say this less of two evil bullshit and don’t give 3rd party candidates a chance.
The only good thing that may come from the Tea Party is the possible emergence of a strong 3rd party (Murkowsky won as an independent which is progress too).
